Seoul, South Korea — A South Korean court on Wednesday sentenced former first lady Kim Keon-hee to one year and eight months in prison after convicting her of accepting bribes from officials of the religious movement known as the Unification Church in exchange for political services. The court cleared Kim, wife of former President Yoon Suk Yeol, who was ousted from office last year, of charges of stock price manipulation and violating political campaign financing laws. The prosecution had sought a 15-year prison sentence and fines of 2.9 billion won ($2 million) on charges including accepting luxury Chanel bags and a diamond necklace from the Unification Church in South Korea in exchange for political services. Kim denied all charges.
