The successful television series 'Squid Game' has become one of the most popular programs on the streaming platform Netflix. The series was so successful in 2021 that Netflix released a second season in December 2024, and the third and final installment is expected to premiere this year.

On February 2, the passing of an actress from the second season of the series who had been diagnosed with stomach cancer was announced. Lee Joo-shil, 81, known for her role as Park Mal Soon, the mother of characters Hwang Jun Ho and Lee Byung Hun, could not overcome the illness and passed away at 10:20 AM at the home of her second daughter.

Lee Joo-shil had been diagnosed with stomach cancer three years ago. Despite the efforts of the doctors at St. Mary's Hospital in Uijeongbu, who attempted to resuscitate her with CPR, the actress did not respond. Her funeral is scheduled for February 5.

The actress had a successful career in film, starring in movies such as "Notebook From My Mother", "Clown of a Salesman" and "The City of Violence", among others. She also participated in several Korean dramas, such as "Country Diaries", "The Uncanny Counter" and "Beauty and Innocent Boy". Lee Joo-shil had previously overcome stage 3 breast cancer 31 years ago, but unfortunately this time she lost the battle against the disease.

So far, neither the production of the series nor the platform has issued comments regarding the actress's passing.
