South Korea, Japan consider joint Asian Cup 2035 bid

South Korea and Japan are considering a joint bid to host the 2035 Asian Cup, officials announced yesterday in a move that renews their cooperation after co-hosting the 2002 World Cup. A South Korean Football Association official said officials are exploring various options, and a joint bid with Japan is 'one of the possible strategies.' He added: 'At this stage, a joint host is not impossible,' noting that plans are still in the initial stage and must first be approved by both governments. Meanwhile, the Japan Football Association told 'AFP' that it is 'conducting various studies' on the possibility of bidding. An association official added: 'We are considering bidding to host the Asian Cup, and it is true that we have discussed a joint hosting option with South Korea and other countries.' He continued: 'However, no concrete decision has been made yet, and we will inform you when we officially launch our bid.' The Asian Football Confederation is set to announce the hosts for the 2031 and 2035 editions simultaneously in 2027. South Korea has not hosted the Asian competition since 1960, while Japan last hosted it in 1992, and Saudi Arabia will host the next edition in 2027. South Korea and Japan previously co-hosted the FIFA World Cup in 2002.
