On Thursday, Seoul stated that Pyongyang is preparing to destroy a site in northern Korea that was used for family reunions, divided by decades of war and the division of the peninsula. A representative from the Ministry of Unification of South Korea called this "an extraordinary inhumane act, ignoring the desperate wishes of divided families." Seoul called its neighbor "extremely regrettable" and expressed "deep sorrow" regarding the actions of Pyongyang.
The course of these events refers to the moment when the North Korean authorities began the demolition of a center in the city of Kumgang, which was used for family reunions, divided by the aftermath of the war between the two Koreas. A representative of the South Korean government also noted that "this unilateral destruction by North Korea cannot be justified under any circumstances" and called for accountability from the authorities in Pyongyang.
