More charges filed against former South Korean president

Prosecutors said on Monday that former South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, who is currently jailed after being impeached and charged with dereliction of duty, has been charged with additional offenses, including supporting an enemy state. The 64-year-old Yoon faces charges of attempting to provoke a military conflict between North and South Korea by secretly sending drones to the north in an attempt to legitimize the martial law he declared late last year. Prosecutors said the drone deployment in October 2024 led to the leakage of military secrets to the north, with the drones crashing near Pyongyang, according to South Korea's Yonhap news agency. The conservative politician has been detained for months and faces charges including treason — a crime punishable by life imprisonment — over the martial law declaration.
