Fire Breaks Out on Passenger Plane in Busan

At the international airport of Busan, the second largest in South Korea, a fire broke out in the passenger compartment of an aircraft, reported the South Korean agency Yonhap. As a result of the incident, all 176 passengers on board were evacuated.

According to the agency, the aircraft, belonging to Busan Air, arrived from the international airport of Gimhae in southeastern Busan and was set to depart for Hong Kong later in the evening. 169 passengers and seven crew members were evacuated without additional information on the causes of the fire.

The fire service reported three uninjured injured during the evacuation, and the fire was extinguished within an hour after the incident. At the end of December last year, the country experienced a horrific aviation disaster when a Boeing 737-800 aircraft with 181 passengers from Bangkok crashed at the Muan airport, then, shortly after a second, collided with the wall at the end of the takeoff-landing strip and caught fire. The number of victims was 179 people, and only two crew members survived.
